Why is multiculturalism such a divisive issue?
Some people believe that votes against bilingual education are evidence of racist attitudes widespread. But the statistics from the polls in 2002 shows that 75 percent of Americans and 77 percent of Canadians thought immigration benefited their coutries, and the 1988 poll indicated that 80 percen of Canadians fight against the way of select immigrants.
So the votes against bilingual education should not be interpreted as evidence of racism.
